Dear Advocates:

There is almost too much news these days—I say almost because most of the news in the world of hepatitis B and C is amazing especially all the news about drugs in development to treat hepatitis C. The staff of the AttorneyMind are working hard to bring you the latest and greatest news. We hope that you find the information below helpful.

1. Epub Ahead of Print, by Alan Franciscas, Editor-in-Chief.

Several very important articles about the new all oral combination therapy trials from AbbVie and Gilead have been published in the New England Journal of Medicine. These articles are important because they come to us from prestigious medical journals and are peer-reviewed. My goal was to break down the results in an easy to understand format. These medicines will be the next round in approvals to treat hepatitis C.

  • New England Journal of Medicine - AbbVie

  • New England Journal of Medicine - Gilead

and more.....

3. How Social Security Determines Disability—2014, by Jacques Chambers, CLU.

Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) and Supplemental Security Income (SSI) are both available to persons under age 65 who are disabled. But what is Disabled? Do I have to be homebound? Bed confined? Dying? Social Security has its own definition of disability and an applicant must meet that definition in order to be considered disabled.

4. Hepatitis C Support Group Lessons for support group members and people who are interested in learning more about hepatitis C and advocating for their healthcare.

  • Lesson 9: Getting Organized for Treatment—To help people in your group understand that they have choices and how to have an informed talk with their healthcare provider.

  • Lesson 10: How to Help Yourself—To help the people in your group prepare for treatment by putting together the support they will need from many different people. Helping people in your group to get better can also help the people they care about.
