Worldwide an estimated 2 billion persons have been infected with HBV, and there 400-800 million who are chronically infected with HBV. Many people chronically infected with HBV may develop severe liver disease, and HBV can lead to death. The two most important steps that people with chronic HBV can take is to educate themselves, and to seek medical care and treatment. The key is to work closely with a medical provider.
