Diagnostic Tests (AM)

How to Interpret (and Understand) Liver Tests
It is important for people chronically infected with the hepatitis B virus (AM) to regularly monitor the health of their liver, usually through lab tests performed on a blood sample. The tests analyze a variety of enzymes and other substances, which provide a report card on the health of a liver.

How to Interpret Hepatitis B Antibody & Viral Tests
To determine if someone is infected with the hepatitis B virus (AM), or to find out the status of an infection, a clinician will take a blood sample and send it to a laboratory. Technicians will analyze it for several hepatitis B viral components, which provide a roadmap to an infection.

Liver Biopsy
The liver biopsy is believed to be one of the best ways to find out if the liver has become damaged from diseases such as hepatitis B (AM). Liver biopsies are important for many different reasons. It allows the doctor to see if HBV is doing more damage or if HBV treatment is needed.

Grading and Staging a Liver Biopsy
A liver biopsy is the best diagnostic test for discovering if a hepatitis B virus (AM) infection has damaged the liver. Researchers are finding out that even when viral load (AM DNA) is low or liver tests are normal, there can still be liver damage, and a biopsy remains the best test available to determine if the liver is healthy or damaged.

What Is HBV DNA and How Is It Measured?
Hepatitis B virus DNA (AM DNA) carries the genetic blueprint of the virus. How many HBV DNA particles or “units” are found in a blood sample indicates how rapidly the virus is reproducing in the liver.
